Honour Before Honours ~ Ko te mana mō mua i te whakamana |
Tēna koutou katoa
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of the Ōtorohanga College community. As Principal, I am extremely proud to lead the College and immensely proud of the students, staff and community who help to make Ōtorohanga College the wonderful College that it is.
Ōtorohanga College aims to provide a safe, caring and respectful environment in which learners achieve individual excellence so that they can be fully involved in all areas of the College and community. We have a dedicated, enthusiastic and committed team of teachers and support staff who empower our learners to succeed.
We are extremely proud of our students’ achievement both academically and in sports and cultural activities. There is a huge wealth of talent which the students bring to the College and we want to nurture this talent in each and every student so they can leave the College having achieved their own personal goals. Our focus is on empowering young people who are fully prepared for life in an ever changing, dynamic society.
As a small rural College we pride ourselves on the care and manaaki we show to our students. Knowledge of each student, individually, means we can tailor the pastoral support for each and every one of our students to ensure they are able to thrive in the College environment.
We are proud of the Ōtorohanga College community and we look forward to welcoming you to our place so that we can embark on our learning journey together.

Dear parents, caregivers and whānau
As we come to the close of Term Three I would like to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and development of your child/ren. Your active participation in their learning process, whether it was helping with homework, coaching a sports team, volunteering for College events or offering words of encouragement, has made a significant impact.
The collaborative relationship between home and College is vital and as I reflect on the achievements and progress made this term I am reminded of the importance of the supportive network provided by you. It is this partnership between you and the College that allows us to nurture the next generation of thinkers, dreamers and leaders.
As we head into the break I hope you find time to rest, relax and enjoy time with your family. We are excited for what lies ahead and look forward to continuing our journey with you in Term Four which begins on Monday 14th October.
Enjoy reading the Highlights.
With warmest regards.

Dear parents, caregivers and whānau
It was with great pleasure that the College opened its doors on Tuesday to welcome Year 7 and Year 8 students to our Experience Day. 168 Year 7s and Year 8s experienced a range of activities. This day was an important part of the students’ journey, giving them a chance to connect, explore and get a feel for what lies ahead.
Next week, the last week of Term Three, sees the College host a community Business Breakfast on Wednesday and on Friday we have our House Chant and Ō factor competitions.
Thank you once again for your continued partnership. We are looking forward to a successful and rewarding final week.
Enjoy reading this week’s Highlights.
Have a lovely weekend.

Dear parents, caregivers and whānau
As we move towards the end of Term Three the arrival of spring, bringing with it warmer days, blossoming flowers and a renewed sense of energy, is warmly welcomed.
On Tuesday evening the Netball Prizegiving was a lovely evening which enabled all netballers, coaches, managers and umpires to be acknowledged and thanked as well as a time to thank Karen for her extraordinary service, her kindness and her unwavering dedication to netball here at the College.
I had the privilege of attending the Waiwaia Cultural Festival today. Our kapa haka group brought the stage to life with their passion. Each student performed with mana, embodying the spirit, energy and tradition that kapa haka represents. To the tutors, Leighjyn and Te Miri Tamaki, supported by Mickey Carr and Te Rangi Kahura, and whānau who have supported our kapa haka group, I extend my heartfelt thanks. Your guidance, encouragement and commitment have been invaluable to our students’ journey. Pasifika OC also took the stage at the Waiwaia Cultural Festival and shared a powerful, vibrant and heartfelt showcase which celebrated culture, identity and the spirit of the Pacific. To the tutor, Seilala Makasale and whānau who have supported Pasifika OC, thank you.
Next week is Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with the theme “ake, ake ake - A forever language. The Derived Grade Examinations continue on Monday and Tuesday, Tuesday sees our Year 7 and Year 8 Experience Day and on Friday it is the College Ball.
Enjoy reading this week’s Highlights.
